<p>Grande quanto una pillola, questa lampadina emette circa 140 lumen per Watt, per capirci una lampadina a incandescenza emette sui 15 lumen per Watt e i più recenti <a title="LED" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LED">LED</a> 70-80 lumen per Watt( anche se alcuni tipi sperimentali arrivano anch&#8217;essi a tali valori. La lampadina <a title="luxim" href="http://www.luxim.com/">Luxim</a> è composta da gas e <a title="alogenuro" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alogenuro">sali metallici</a>, un campo elettrico eccita le molecole di gas convertendole in <a title="plasma" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plasma_%28physics%29">plasma</a> a questo punto i <a title="metalli alidi" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halide">sali metallici</a> si uniscono al plasma emettendo una potente luce bianca. <p>Ricercatori giapponesi hanno alterato la struttura dei cristalli di cemento di allumina convertendoli in una sottile e trasparente membrana che conduce elettricità. Questo nuovo materiale può essere usato come sostituto di metalli rari come l&#8217;<a href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indio" title="indio">indio</a> che è usato negli schermi al plasma e a cristalli liquidi. Normalmente il cemento di <a href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ossido_di_alluminio" title="allumina">allumina </a>(o triossido di alluminio, residuo di lavorazione di altoforno per produrre acciaio) è costituito da un composto di calce e allumina (C12A7) la cui struttura cristallina è simile a celle asimmetriche che lo rendono uno scarso conduttore di elettricità; ma sigillando questo composto con del <a href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Titanio" title="titanio">Titanio</a> in un tubo di vetro e portandolo alla temperatura di 1100 gradi Celsius, i ricercatori sono stati in grado di ottenere una struttura omogenea a celle simmetriche che conduce elettricità come il metallo.</p>
